KLRI held Academic Conference with Ministry of Government Legislation and Unification and North Korean Law Studies

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President: Rhee Ik Hyeon) jointly held an academic conference with the Korea Ministry of Government Legislation and the Unification and North Korean Law Studies under the subject of “Strategies on Legislation of North Korea Polices in the Era of South and North Exchange and Cooperation” in the State Room of Koreana Hotel Seoul on October 12th.

This academic conference was prepared to discuss measures of legal system for activating exchange and cooperation under improvement of relations among South Korea, North Korea and the United States including the Inter-Korea summit talks, and supporting the North Korea policies of the Korean Government by legislation.

The academic conference was segmented into four sessions, attended by around 100 participants, including Rhee Ik Hyeon, President of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, Kim Oe Sook, the Minister of Government Legislation, and Shin Young Ho, President of the Unification and North Korean Law Studies.

Main subjects included: construction of law system for developing inter-korean relations and implementing the Panmunjom Declaration; reform of law system for activating south and north exchange; conclusion of inter-Korean basic agreement and establishment of inter-Korean relations; and promotion of united national arrangement for proliferating unification consensus.

Experts from government agencies, academia, legal profession and research institutes participated in presentations and discussions, including Koo Byung Sam, policy planning manager of the Ministry of Unification, Kim Nam Yeon, exchange and cooperation officer for law system of the Ministry of Government Legislation, and Park Hun Min and Ryu Ji Sung, deputy members of the Korea Legislation Research Institute.

Rhee Ik Hyeon, President of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, said "This academic conference will review major legislative issues involved with implementing the master plan regarding the Korean Government’s North Korea policies."

Meanwhile, the Korea Legislation Research Institute accumulates North Korea legislative materials for preparing the unification of South and North Korea and conducts legislative research for inter-Korean exchange and cooperation and research on legal systems of transition economies.
