KLRI held Second United Academic Conference for Evaluation of Legislation

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President: Rhee Ik Hyeon) held the second united academic conference for evaluation of legislation 2018 under the subject of 'Legislative Theory and Pending Issues of Modern Society' in Room 109 of Gabriel Building, Sogang University on October 12th.

This academic conference was jointly held with the Korea Legal Society (President: Lee Sang Soo), the Korean Society of Legislation Studies (President: Lim Ji Bong), the Korean Society of Gender Law (President Shin Ok Ju), and the Institute for Legal Studies of Sogang University, providing a forum for discussion of the science of legislation, legislation related to gender, and other major issues related to evaluation of legislation on sociology of law.

Main subjects included: evaluation of legislation and legislative theory - a case of technical and scientific impact; evaluation of proposed legislation of history denial crime; how to handle civil disobedience by theory of legislation; legislation and civic participation; evaluation of legislation on the Act on Support for Female-Owned Business; and post-evaluation of legislation on the Act on the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Protection, Etc. of Victims. The conference featured prominent presenters, moderators and discussion panel including  Song Ki Choon, professor of Chonbuk National University, Kim Do Hyun, professor of Dongguk University, Hong Sung Soo, professor of Sookmyung Women's University, Cha Hyun Sook, director of Office of Legislation Strategy and Analysis at the KLRI, and Choi Kyung Ho, deputy-member of Legislative Evaluation Research Team at the KLRI.

Rhee Ik Hyeon, President of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, said "it is worth noting that analyzing social meaning of the rule of law and legal phenomena is now needed not only for the sociology of law and science of legislation but also for gender law and evaluation of legislation."

Meanwhile, the Korea Legislation Research Institute performs research on evaluation of legislation for the purpose of preventing excessive laws and regulations, conducts evaluation of legislation on current laws, regulations and Municipal Ordinances, and holds united academic conferences in which development of theory for evaluating legislation and actual application are discussed.
