KLRI Participated in the DMZ Peace Economics International Forum Session

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Rhee, Ik-Hyeon) held a session DMZ Peace Economics International Forum, under the theme, “Restoring homogeneity and stabilizing DMZ land order for peace and coexistence,” at the Orchid Room, 2nd floor of Seoul Westin-Chosun Hotel, on 29 (Thu).
 
Organized and hosted by the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, and 14 national research institutes, sponsored by the Ministry of Unification, Seoul, and Incheon, the event was designed to enhance understanding of the New Korean Peninsula system and peace economy policy.  
 
At the opening ceremony attended by German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, former Indonesian President Megawati Sokarnoputri and former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, there was a remark by Sung Kyeong-ryung, President of the NRC Korea, and a speech by Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon.
 
Following the opening ceremony, seven sub-sessions were held in the afternoon with the participation of national research institutes. The topics of ▲ politics, diplomacy, security, ▲ environment, agriculture, ▲ industry, science and technology, ▲ education, human resources, ▲ international cooperation, women, ▲ legislation, criminal law, ▲ and the head of the East Asian Research Institute (Foreign Economic Policy Institute) were discussed.
 
In the legislative and criminal section of the KLRI, presentations and discussions were held under the theme of ``stabilization of DMZ land order based on neutral common ground'' and ``the experience of Thuringia in Germany and implications for Korean DMZ.'’
 
Meanwhile, the KLRI conducts research on legislation for inter-Korean exchange cooperation, collects and analyzes North Korean legislative data in preparation for integration between South and North Korea, and studies the legal system of transition countries.
