KLRI held 6th Asian Legislative Experts Symposium

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President: Rhee Ik-hyeon) and the Ministry of Government Legislation jointly held the 6th Asian Legislative Experts Symposium under the theme of 'Strategies for Modifying Administrative Procedure Law and System: Promoting Public Participation and Communication with the Public' in the Grand Ballroom of Millennium Seoul Hilton (B1F) on October 31st (Wed). Since its first symposium held in 2013, the Asian Legislative Experts Symposium has been providing an international forum to share the experience of legislative development with asian countries and seek development measures on legislation.
 
The latest symposium was attended by around 200 experts including Rhee Ik-hyeon, President of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, Kim Oe-sook, the Minister of Government Legislation, and U Tun Tun Oo, Attorney General of the Union Attorney General’s Office of Myanmar. The symposium consisted of two sessions and started with keynote speeches delivered by Kim Ji-hyung, managing partner of JIPYONG LLC (former Supreme Court Justice) and Shim Bo-kyun, the Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety.
 
The subject of Session 1 was “Asian Countries' Legislative Efforts for Administrative Procedure Law and System.” Participants discussed “Asian Countries' Administrative Procedure Law and System” and “History of Korea's Administrative Procedure Law and System.” In Session 2, entitled “Strategies for Modifying Administrative Procedure Law and System to Promote Public Participation and Communication with the Public”, participants engaged in lively debate on “Public Engagement System and  Related Legislative Issues and Petition System” and “Related Legislative Issues.”
 
Hong Jun-hyung, Professor of the Graduate School of Public Administration, Seoul National University, Eun Jae-ho, Vice-President of the Korea Institute of Public Administration and Byeon Jung-hwa, Administrator of the Digital Communication Center of Presidential Office attended the symposium as presenters and debaters.
 
President Rhee Ik-hyeon said, "we expect asian legislative experts to share their legislative experiences on promoting public participation and communication with the public, and seek reasonable legislative measures."
 
The Korea Legislation Research Institute operates Asia Legal Information Network (ALIN) to promote cooperation among Asian countries through exchange of legal information. As part of its efforts for overseas exchange and cooperation, the KLRI provides education on Korean Laws for working-level legislative personnel from foreign government agencies and research institutes.
